I believe that everyone should have the right to a beautiful home. As a teacher and single mother with a very limited budget, I have to get creative. I shop thrift stores and tag sales and friends’ homes to salvage pieces of furniture and repurpose them, giving those pieces a second life. The technique I use depends upon the piece. I refinish furniture, use clay paint, chalk paint, and milk paint and wax or apply a topcoat. I love to distress and create a chippy finish. With a lot of meticulous work, I can give a new life and a new purpose for my finds. All of my pieces are one-of-a-kind. Each piece has a character, a past life, and that’s what I love about them. Since my house can hold only so much and I continue to find amazing pieces, I decided to start a business to share what I make with others. I also want to share what I have learned with others and inspire their creativity.
The Turned Leg sells salvaged and repurposed furniture and home goods at Plaza Antiques & Collectibles in Lincoln Park, Michigan. Plaza Antiques & Collectibles is open six days and week and is Downriver’s largest antique mall with over 70 dealers. I have two booths located in the store. Just look for the number #134. In addition to painted furniture, I sell antiques, home goods, salvaged items, and hardware. I am also a local retailer for DIY Paints and Paint Pixie Brushes. Thanks for visiting The Turned Leg, the home of salvaging, repurposing and creating.
